Is this supposed to be this hard?

Maybe you've been trying to get pregnant for longer than anyone warned you about, and it feels hard and unfair. Maybe the baby is finally here, you love them so much, and you're miserable - and you can't figure out why everyone else seems so much better at this than you.

Maybe you and your partner keep having the same fight. Maybe you're caring for your kids and your parents at the same time and there's nothing left over for you. Or maybe nothing dramatic happened at all. You just don't feel like yourself anymore.

Big changes don't come with an instruction manual. They come with a lot of pressure to be fine. So you minimize it. You tell yourself other people have it worse, and that you shouldn't need this much support.

You're allowed to need support. It isn't a sign you're doing life wrong. It's a completely reasonable response to a life that just changed shape.

HOW WE WORK

We believe therapy should be useful.

Pregnancy & Postpartum

Postpartum depression and anxiety, birth trauma and the enormous identity shift of becoming a parent. You got a whole new job description overnight and the performance reviews started immediately. We help you find your footing, and yourself, again.

Infertility & Family Building

You don't have to explain the acronyms to us. Whether you're newly diagnosed or on your third round at your second clinic, we help with treatment decisions, pregnancy loss, grief you may not have called grief yet and the baby shower you can't bring yourself to go to.

Couples Therapy

Using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), we help couples see the cycle they're stuck in and find their way back to each other - through infidelity, infertility, new parenthood, sex and intimacy or the same fight on repeat.

You won't have to explain yourself here.

Reaching out is hard enough without wondering whether you'll be judged when you do. So we'll say it plainly: Sea Change Therapy is an LGBTQ+ affirming practice.

If you're queer or trans, building your family with a donor or gestational carrier, in an open relationship or living a life that doesn't look like the one on the brochure, you won't need to justify it or educate us. We take your whole lived experience into account - and then we get on with the work you came here to do.

You are not meant to do this alone.

Jenny Cooke Malstrom, LMFT, founded Sea Change Therapy to be the kind of practice she'd want to find: warm, direct and deeply familiar with the parts of life that don't come with a manual - fertility treatment, pregnancy and postpartum and what all of it does to a relationship.

Today we're a small team of therapists who share that approach. We won't just nod along. We'll help you understand what's happening, give you tools you can actually use and treat you like the capable adult you are - even on the days you don't feel like one.

And we believe something that shouldn't be radical: you deserve to be happy, healthy and whole. Not just as a partner or a parent but as a person.

YOU CAN’T STOP THE WAVES…

but you can learn how to surf.

You don't have to know exactly what's wrong, or be sure therapy is the answer. You just have to be willing to have one conversation.

Getting started is simpler than it feels.

1. Book a free consultation

Tell us a little about what's going on. You don't need the right words - "I don't feel like myself" is a perfectly good place to start.

2. Get matched with the right therapist

We'll help you find the clinician on our team who fits what you need, your schedule and your budget. If we're not the right fit, we'll connect you with someone in our network who is.

3. Start where it works for you

Meet in person in Des Moines or West Seattle or online throughout Washington & Florida.

About fees: We offer private-pay sessions, in-network care with select clinicians (Premera, LifeWise, and Molina Apple Health) and low-fee sessions with our supervised clinical interns.
